Please join us in welcoming Rev. Dr. Robert M. Roegner who will be with us for a few months.
Rev. Dr. Robert M. Roegner is originally from Detroit, Michigan. He attended Concordia Junior College in Ann Arbor, receiving an Associate Degree in 1974. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1977 at Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne, Indiana, graduating cum laude. He then entered Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne and received his Master of Divinity degree in May 1981, graduating summa cum laude. He has also completed work from the Fuller School of World Mission in Pasadena, California and from the Summer Institute of Linguistics at Oklahoma University in Norman, Oklahoma. May 2004 he received an Honorary Doctor of Laws (L.L.D.) degree from his alma mater, Concordia University, Ann Arbor.
After his ordination in August 1981, Dr. Roegner began serving as an evangelistic missionary/church planter among the Kisi Nation in Liberia, West Africa. From March 1984, to February 1990, Dr. Roegner also served as Missionary Counselor for the Evangelical Lutheran Mission in Liberia.
In February 1990, Dr. Roegner accepted the Call to become Area Secretary for Africa, Europe and the Middle East for the Board for Mission Services of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. In December 1995, Dr. Roegner accepted the Call to become the Executive Director of Lutheran Bible Translators, located in Aurora, Illinois. On May 1, 1999 Dr. Roegner accepted the Call to become the Senior Pastor of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and School in Westwood, New Jersey.
Responding to a Call extended to him by the LCMS Board for Mission Services in October 2001, Dr. Roegner accepted the Call and began his duties as Executive Director of the Board for Mission Services (LCMS World Mission) on November 15, 2001. Dr. Roegner was very busy during his seven years as executive director helping to create a vision for a mission movement called Ablaze! within The Lutheran Church— Missouri Synod and Partner Churches around the world proclaiming the Good News of Jesus to 100 million unreached and uncommitted people by the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017. At the time of his departure from LCMS World Mission, over 2100 LCMS congregations and 20 Partner Churches had been a part of the Ablaze! movement!
On April 1, 2009, Dr. Roegner accepted a Call from the English District, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and began a new mission ministry as Mission Developer for St. Louis city and north county. Working with English and Missouri District congregations, Dr. Roegner will plant new churches and train leaders in the same way as he did while a missionary in Africa using a similar model and strategy developed during his time there.
Dr. Roegner was married in August 1975 to Kristi Carol (nee Sandmann) and their marriage has been blessed with four children—Amy, Jeremy, Stephanie and Tracy, one son-in-law, Jamaine, one daughter-in-law, Megan, and two grandsons, Aaron Elijah and Samuel Jacob.
