THE CHILDREN’S MINISTRY AT PEACE LUTHERAN
Worship…Connect…Serve
Our Philosophy about Children at Peace
The members of Peace cherish all of our children, from tiny babies to terrific teenagers, and we strive to integrate them into the faith with fun, motivating and interactive activities, programs and instruction. Being a family of God is highly valued, so children and youth alike are encouraged to be part of our worship services, our connection opportunities and our service to the community.
Sunday School at Peace
Peace provides a caring, Christian atmosphere for teaching children the basic tenets of the Christian faith. Using the “Growing in Christ” curriculum, our dedicated teachers provide a variety of experiences to introduce the children to God’s plan of salvation. In addition to learning the Bible stories and lessons, the children are encouraged to express their opinions, lift one another up in prayer and to share the good news of Salvation. Appropriate and meaningful crafts are regularly integrated into the lessons.
The Sunday School Curriculum
§ Growing in Christ, a product of Concordia Publishing House, is a Sunday School curriculum rich in God’s Holy Word, connecting the Word to the daily lives of the children.
§ In a Growing in Christ Sunday School classroom, children hear the Good News of Christ’s death and resurrection in every lesson and are exposed to a substantial scope of Bible stories from early on!
§ The Growing in Christ Scope and Sequence was designed with three guiding principles:
1. To teach the Scriptures as they reveal God’s plan of salvation.
2. To link Sunday School to the worship of the church.
3. To unite families in the study of God’s Word.
More information about the Growing in Christ curriculum may be viewed at the Concordia Publishing House website: http://sundayschool.cph.org/content/testimonials.asp
Sunday School Service Projects
The Sunday School children sponsor various service projects. In 2009, the children and members of Peace participated in the following projects:
1. Over 200 cereal boxes were donated for families at Concordia Seminary.
2. A large quantity of paper products and baby wipes were donated to the ministry at Our Lady’s Inn in New Melle.
3. Food items were collected to benefit a family of a student at Concordia Seminary.
In 2010, the Sunday School will collect items for local food pantries on the first Sunday of each month.
Children’s Messages During the Worship Services
§ During the worship services, specially designed children’s messages are presented to the children to enhance their understanding of the daily Scripture readings and/or the theme of the day.
§ Adults and children alike benefit from these interactive messages.
Infant and Toddler Nursery
§ A nursery attendant is available to care for infants and young children during our regular worship services.
